Music On Hold and greetings for Grandstream

Choose Grandstream in the studio and your download comes out ready for it. The UCM keeps music on hold and custom prompts apart, so the first thing to settle is which of the two you are loading.

The file

What Grandstream needs

The file your system expects, prepared for you. There is nothing to convert, and no setting for you to work out.

Grandstream Ready

Upload this straight into your Grandstream system.

Choose Grandstream in the studio and the file your system expects is prepared for you, ready to upload as it is.

Every purchase also includes an MP3 you can play on any device to check it or send it around your team, plus the full-quality original in case someone ever asks for it. Downloads are unlimited.

Music On Hold is your phone system name for the slot that plays while a caller waits. Recordings are produced voice only while the music library is closed, and a spoken recording fills that slot just as well — the levels, the timing and a clean start and finish are still handled for you.

Where it goes

Getting the file onto your system

Choose Grandstream in the studio, then take the download to your system.

  1. Sign in to your Grandstream UCM web interface.
  2. Go to PBX Settings, then Voice Prompt, then Music On Hold or Custom Prompts.
  3. Upload the Grandstream Ready file and apply the change.

If the screens do not match

Grandstream revises the UCM web interface regularly and the headings move between firmware releases. If yours does not match, look for the area that holds voice prompts: music on hold and custom prompts are nearly always sections within it.

What usually goes wrong

The things that catch people out on Grandstream

Almost every one of these ends with somebody deciding the file is faulty when it is not. They are worth two minutes before you start.

  • Loaded as a prompt when it was meant to be hold music

A custom prompt is played at a caller deliberately — a greeting, a menu, a voicemail message. Music on hold is what fills the wait. The UCM keeps them in separate places and one does not stand in for the other.

  • The change has not been applied

The UCM collects changes and applies them when you tell it to. If the line sounds exactly as it did before, check whether an apply or reload is still waiting at the top of the page.

  • A long or unusual file name

Some releases are particular about spaces and punctuation in a file name. If an upload is refused without a clear reason, rename the file to something short and plain — letters, numbers and hyphens — and try again.

  • More than one music on hold class

The UCM can hold several sets of hold music and point different queues at different ones. If only some callers hear your recording, another queue is still pointed at the default set.

Write your script, pick one of the Australian voices, and hear five seconds of your own audio before you decide anything. Pricing is one payment for the recording you make, and the file for Grandstream is included in it rather than charged as an extra.

We'll prepare the file. You just upload it.

Start from a blank page or let the assistant draft it. Either way you hear five seconds of your own audio before you decide anything.
