Music
Music on your phone line
Most phone systems play something while a caller waits. The music library is not open yet, so recordings are produced voice-only for now — and the mix still handles the levels, the timing and a clean start and finish.
Why it matters
A caller on hold is listening to something either way
- A silent line gives a caller no way to tell whether they are still connected, so some of them hang up and ring back.
- Something playing marks the time. The same wait feels shorter when there is a reason to believe somebody is still there.
- The wait is going to happen anyway, so it may as well be useful — your hours, where to park, what to have ready when someone picks up.
- It is the one part of the call that sounds the same every time, however busy the office is and whoever answers.
The mix
How music is mixed under a voice
Music is never simply laid behind the words and left there. Whenever there is music under a message, this is what the studio does with it, and none of it is yours to set up.
The music starts on its own, so the message does not begin the instant the call connects.
When the voice comes in, the music steps back. It is still there, just underneath the words.
In the gaps between sentences it eases forward again, so the line never falls silent.
How present the music is, is your choice — low, medium or high — and the words stay on top whichever you pick.
The music loops without a join you can hear, and the recording fades in and out rather than stopping dead.
Music
Your words, mixed and ready
Every recording is levelled, timed and converted for your phone system. Background music is coming; for now your messages are delivered on their own, which is what most phone systems play best anyway.
Voice only
Leaving the music out is a real choice, not a lesser one
Plenty of businesses prefer their messages plain, and they are not settling for less. A clinic reading appointment instructions, a law firm with a serious matter on the line, a workshop where the caller needs to write a number down — in all of them the words are the point, and anything behind them is one more thing to listen past.
Some recordings are voice-only by design. The studio does not offer music with IVR / Menu or Voicemail at all, because a caller there is being asked to listen for an instruction and act on it.
Whichever way you go, the recording is levelled and timed the same, and it arrives in the same set of files ready for your phone system.
